When you’re moving house it’s very easy to get wrapped up in your own stresses and worries; you have tight deadlines for everything from cleaning behind the fridge to transferring the funds. However, you should stop and remember that there’s another person or family going through their own house relocation here (which is a good job, or you’d be going nowhere!).
You might never meet your buyers in person, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t do something nice for them. Of course, you’ll be leaving the place spotlessly clean, but you can add some personal touches to the space to make them feel at home as soon as they walk through the door.
Stock up the fridge and leave a bottle of wine on the table
If your buyers are moving in on the day you move out, then you could even leave them a pot of stew to warm up! If not, then a care package of milk, good-quality coffee, teas and chocolates, snacks and a bottle of wine will do the job nicely. Make sure you leave a few glasses and cups behind for them, too.
Don’t forget the kids
You can find out the ages of any children from your real estate agent so you know what sort of gifts to leave for them. Activity packs, books, a board game and DVDs are a good idea.
Get the bathroom ready
If there’s one thing everyone wants after a house relocation, it’s a good hot shower or deep bath once the day is done. Get in some fancy bubbles and bath bombs for your buyers so that they see them as soon as they move in. This will give them something to look forward to (as well as that bottle of wine.
Give them the lowdown on the neighbourhood
A quick run-through of the best shops, the best bars and any hidden gems in your area won’t go unappreciated. You should also let your buyers know who the friendly neighbours are, as well as the not-so-friendly ones and how they can help themselves to fit in in their new home.
